A Tiny Offering
I can see the frost in the moonlight. That would be bad news if I had an orchard, but my peach tree passed a while back, so the plum is the only fruit tree left, and it’s never fruited. It had lots of blooms this year for the first time, however, so I’ll check when the sun comes up to see if anything fruity is going on. My persimmon is a male, which means lots of flowers but no fruit. That’s probably a good thing because persimmons stain.
The rest of the yard and gardens will make do with the hand mother nature is dealing and get on with it. Besides, we’ll be back in the 90s by the end of the week, which sounds like summer and it’s only March. It’s sort of fun to think about what this might portend for summer, but an El Niño is predicted, and the last one was a hot one and it was really no fun. So, I’d prefer to avoid thinking about that, partly because there’s nothing I can do about it.
But back to the frost. Most of my plants are relatively sheltered, sitting beneath big trees or under porch overhangs. So, I’m not overly concerned about potential damage, because they’re mostly all natives and they’re used to this sort of thing. And this my friends, concludes today’s offering with its tiny bit of news, which if nothing else, satisfies the criteria for my typical short essays. Maybe I’ll have grander thoughts tomorrow.
