Brain Dump
Fed the cats this morning and on my way back into the house found a Walnut Sphinx Moth hanging on the screen. What a nice set of wings. Swept back. Ornate. Didn’t seem to be the type of guy to flutter aimlessly around a lit light bulb. It disappeared at first light, or so I imagined. I wasn’t there when it left. I’m not sure what it will eat around here, we don’t have many trees it might like. I guess the little cherry tree might be considered a nut tree. We’ll have to see.
The moth sighting points out one of the things I’ve known for a while. There’s a lot to see if you take the time to look. And not just look but actually see, which takes a little curiosity and the willingness to frame the question, what’s that. For me, personally, that willingness probably developed as a response mechanism to a social world I found largely incomprehensible and one to be dealt with at a distance. When your head is hanging down you start looking at the world around your feet. Or, in the books you read.
Of course, there’s a downside. I get a lot of stuff stored up in my head. So, when I accidentally brush against someone even remotely interested in a topic that interests me, I tend to brain dump everything I sort of know. It happened yesterday when someone said they liked quantum mechanics. It’s not a good conversational gambit. And it’s probably a little offensive. At least one person has said I talk too much. And maybe that’s why I write. Three paragraphs, 300 words, more of less, take it or leave it. I’m out of here. And you’re free to go.
