Cleaning
Power washed the porches yesterday. That was a loud, noisy mess. But now everything looks spic and span. The next step is to get on a ladder and clean off the remnants of the old swallow nests. Of course I’m not supposed to do ladders. So, maybe I should try the high-pressure nozzle on the washer. Or maybe I can use a brush on an extension. Or maybe doing nothing is a good option. I like having choices.
Before I go up, however, I’ll go out. The carport/garage could use a little tidying. Dust and dirt have collected in the corners. In the last several months I’ve done a good job of decluttering, so I can actually see the floor, and what I see needs work. And the walls could use some help as well. The prevailing southeasterly breeze coats everything it reaches with a fine patina of dust. It’s time to clean.
I wonder if my country grandmother and great-grandmother had an obsession with exterior cleaning. I have no memories of either doing anything in that regard. But maybe they did it before I arrived, since I was always a guest. If they did clean, however, I’m guessing they most likely contented themselves with sweeping. I doubt mopping an outside porch entered into the equation. But I guess it’s new tricks for new ponies. We have labor-saving machines, and different thoughts on what a prideful person should do.
