Hog Work
Something dug up the front yard last night a little more aggressively that one might expect from an armadillo or a skunk. Has the trappings of hog work. Deep holes, lots of dirt thrown around. Unfortunately, I moved the camera monitoring that part of the yard to another location the other day. So, I was blind to the nighttime activity. I guess I’ll need to bring in another camera.
I have no idea what I’ll do if it is a hog or hogs. I guess report it to the game warden. Feral hogs in close proximity to people is a bad idea. They’re a tad bit more aggressive than the local white tail deer, who tend to run when I walk outside. But I won’t know what I’ve got until we see the film at ten, which is me alluding to the old tv nighttime news. Later this morning, when it warms a bit, I’ll check the back lots and the fences. In the meantime, it’s a waiting game.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the dead deer lying in the park across the street. It’s in one of the pastures off the trails, and the vultures have been visiting. I guess the park staff is letting nature take its course. I’ll ask them about that and see if it’s part of the puzzle. I know they’ve trapped hogs in the park before. And I know hogs will kill fawns if they get a chance. In the end, it’s a nice excuse be busy in the winter.
