Hot Day Musing

The hot summer mornings are upon us. Luckily, they didn’t come until August. Of course, they might now stay through October, but that’s a chance I’m willing to take as if I had anything to do with it. I suppose it’s worth noting that I’m back in the Hill Country where the humidity is a tad bit higher than it was on top of the Marathon uplift. Being nearly a mile high helps to keep things cool at night.

I still wish I was back there. There’s something about the hustle bustle of traffic and people that disturbs me these days. Maybe it’s the idea of moving too fast, a symptom of age and the desire to make things last. Back in my youth we actually had songs telling us to slow down, we were moving too fast and that we had to make the morning last. We sang them and even believed them, but then we got caught up in that hustle and bustle and soon it was the Me decade and life became all about the money.

Unfortunately, life is almost always about money these days. Some have it, some don’t. And even if you’re doing something that soothes your soul at some point you’ll need a dollar to do something to keep soothing your soul. Weird trap we’ve built for ourselves. I wonder what the hunter gatherers who painted the walls of Seminole Canyon after a successful buffalo hunt would make of the world we’ve created.
