Nitty Gritty
A thunderstorm sent me to bed last night and another woke me in the middle. A quick peek at the rain gauge this morning shows we got a bit more than an inch of rain. And that’s how an acre of land in the middle of Texas in the southern half of the US, fared yesterday. A private report. A data point. Something to plot. No doubt the AI engines will scope it up to learn what they need to learn, and maybe we’ll be better for it. And you can use it however you choose.
I think my plants are happy although I make a habit of watering them from the rain barrels. The other day, however, I broke out the hose from the well and gave them a dousing. Rain water is always the first choice though. It’s soft. The well water and the city water are hard with lots of calcium and that’s not good for the plants, and the city water has chlorine, too. There are ways around the chemicals, but it’s not really needed for temporary use. The plants will take the water and sort the rest out. Meanwhile, my xeriscape plants, the Sage and Twist Leaf Yucca are blooming and having a good time.
And it appears this is one of those days when I get right down into the nitty gritty of life, the little things that hold the big things together. But it feels foundational, the sort of thing everyone should do to give themselves some sense of balance and normalcy while trying to figure out how the national winds are blowing, and what sort of dance the politicians are doing in whatever capital has the most impact, state, national, or international. So, all things being equal, I hope everyone got at least a little bit of rain last night and everything else works out for you.
