Pasture Pondering

It’s a lovely day in the neighborhood. It was windy yesterday and not so lovely. But it’s still now, and cool and that feels good. Springlike. Our need for rain continues, but I am beginning to despair. We have the month of May and most of June before the official start of summer. I’m afraid, however, we’re going to be in for a goodly stretch of hot and dry with only occasional showers. We need a monsoon.

A little flock of turkeys walked by the other day, right along the fence between me and the pasture to my south. The pasture is for sale and I wonder if the turkeys had heard the news and were looking for new digs. Not likely, but it’s a funny thought. Yesterday a gray squirrel ran up the Mesquite tree beneath which the turkey’s walked. It was a wildlife parade out my window. Usually, it’s birds, cats, and cows, although one day I saw a fox.

I’m pretty sure civilization is coming to the pasture. The ranch next door to the west got sold and turned into four-hundred apartments. I can see them through the trees and hear the digging and the banging. They tore up part of my property bringing them water and sewage. It will be a sad day when I lose my view, but I do live in the city, and progress of this type is inevitable. I can’t honestly expect everything to stop just because I moved in. Besides, I ruined my neighbors view when I built this house. So, turnabout seems fair play.
