Rain

We’ve had a few days of rain and might have a few more. But the creek beds are still dry, and the lake levels low so no one’s celebrating. I think the storm to turn that tide will have to be epic, and even then, it might still fall short. Methinks it will be hard to overcome decreased rainfall and a population of thirty million people who like to drink water. That’s a lot of straws in the aquifers, and more are coming every day.

I suspect the rain going in can’t match the rain going out, but I don’t feel much like throwing around numbers. And lots of folks these days are really in no mood, and I’m no statistician. I wish we could put our heads together as a group and see how best to address the issue, but we’d have to see it as an issue and that’s hard for a lot of folks. So, here we are. It’s raining, the grass is green, the plants are growing, and when it dries out, I’ll have to mow.

I think this is one of the benefits of growing old. When I talk about having enough water to last a lifetime, that’s maybe ten or fifteen years at the most for me, twenty if I’m lucky. Plus, I don’t live in Corpus Christi where the city really is running out of water. So, I’ll let others paint the doomsday scenarios and see where that goes. Meanwhile, it might rain again today, and no matter what, that will be nice.
