Seasonal Work

It’s raining and everything is oddly green given that it’s December. But we’ve yet to have a freeze. So, rain and cool weather have the grass excited and growing. A reverse version of spring. And no cold is on the horizon either. So, I’ll probably need to mow at some point, although that’s just for cosmetic reasons and I have no HOA or neighbors tut-tutting over my unkempt grass. So, I might let it go for a while longer.

I also have to consider the bluebonnets, especially in the back lots, because it’s likely they’ve sprouted in anticipation of winter and the coming spring. If they’re plentiful, I hate to mow because the big wheels of the tractor are hell on tender shoots. Maybe I’ll walk around today and see what’s up. It’s always fun looking for baby bluebonnets hiding in the grasses.

After that I’ll continue my work on my next book, which is mostly organizational at this point. It’s about grief. Reading some of the essays, however, no matter how briefly, is like picking at scabs, there’s a little blood. But it’s a needed exercise. So, I plod on, thinking about organization, redundancy, and how I might end a book on grief, when grief is a never-ending thing. But my goal is to publish this spring in the season of renewal and rebirth. Which, I think, will fit the message I hope to bring.
