Uneasy Weather

The weather feels uneasy these days as though it is having a hard time making up its mind about what it wants to do. Should it rain? Should it shine? What? How about a strong wind? Maybe a good calm? We’re having hot days, but there’s so much moisture in the ground it hardly feels like summer at all, and its nearly July. By now we should be baking. Instead, we have a sauna.

Overall, it’s way better than drought, however, so I’ll take the moisture and be happy. Rivers appear to be running, and lake levels are rising. Some more than others but up is a good direction. We’ll worry about how much later. Besides, we still have a Super El Ninõ winter to come and that could do even more good for us. It’s no longer fashionable or even permissible in some quarters to talk about global warming, but it seems something is changing.

I think it behooves us to remember, however, that in the long history of earth our climate has done a lot of weird things, and it’s done them without an ounce of concern for any of the living things trying to make a go of it. I guess the good thing for humans is that we have something that passes for intelligence and that gives us the ability to adapt with intention. Or, on the flip side, know why we didn’t make it, as earth turns out our lights as we regret some of our life choices.
