I drove to the store yesterday. The first time since last week and the start of the storm that I’ve been out of the house to do something other than casually walk around in the yard. A big patch of ice on the driveway gave me pause for the longest time. But as the day warmed yesterday, I felt safe enough to brave it, so off I went. I don’t recall being so timid, but I guess age does that to you. Besides, there was nothing compulsory going on, so why not stay home?

I have to admit I find myself less inclined to go and do these days. Mostly it just feels like too much trouble for too little reward. I hope it’s not depression, but I suppose I could ask my doctor the next time I see him. Although, my next appointment isn’t until April which feels like a long way off. So, perhaps I should think about it now. In fact, it just may be my annual winter retreat into myself because I’m not getting enough sun.

There, that does it. I think I’ll take a long walk this afternoon. Besides, I’ve been trying to get back into shape so I could do some hiking in March when we take our annual trip to Lajitas. I don’t think I’m up for the South Rim, but I think I could do Lost Mines, just for the fun of it. Of course, a lot depends on how the rest of the crew feels, but being that I’m the oldest I suspect they’ll be up for it because who wants to be out walked by an old man.
