Watching Waiting
I bought nine plants yesterday. Four marigolds, three Spanish lavenders, and two prostrate rosemary’s. I planted them in groups because I think it will help them thrive to have a companion of the same species close at hand. After all, they grew up that way. I did the same last year with mealy sage a friend gifted me. I planted them in two groups, and they’re thriving.
Of course, I won’t know the outcome of the experiment until next spring after the plants have had a chance to winter and strengthen their roots and get used to the soil and water conditions. The lavender and rosemary were bought for their low water tolerance. The marigolds for their color. I’d like to get the latter established just for the fun of it, but a Texas summer can be brutal even with water, so we’ll see how it goes.
In established plant news, my Mexican plum has fruit. In an interesting side note, the fruit is hanging from the spikes coming off the tree’s branches. That seems convenient for picking, and now I have something to do while I wait for the fruit to ripen. Watch. Of course there will be birds watching as well. We’ll just see who gets there first. I’m betting on the birds, but if I can get a small taste that will likely satisfy me.
