Winter Touch Down
Winter stopped by the other day, burned the leaves and blooms on a few trees, before realizing its mistake and heading out of town, apologizing profusely for causing a disturbance during the arrival of spring. No one seemed to mind however, because it was nice to get one more chance to wear a sweater, and everyone knew winter wasn’t really here to stay.
Seasons are like that in most of Texas. Summer and spring rule the roost. Fall and winter only get passing glances, because when they do come, they usually feel like slightly harder versions of summer and spring. You can wear shorts year-round and most people do, especially golfers who think bare legs are de rigueur no matter the weather. Personally, I like long pants, because I’ve always like dressing up, maybe because my father was in the Navy and I always thought he looked good in his dress uniform. So, I thought that’s what men did. Dress up.
Later today I’ll probably head outside to putter around in the garden. No big projects are calling my name, just the little things that keep the plants growing and a man occupied. I do have two big pots I’d like to move. They sit on either side of the gate between my yard and the neighbor’s yard. It feels like they could use a new home and a little love. And that feels like an appropriate amount of work for a fine spring day.
