Here we are. A new day. The sun lit the morning clouds in a spectacular fashion. That’s done. The day is started. Not much on the agenda. Plans are in hand for the trip to Uvalde tomorrow for the funeral of our friend, Sky.

Another friend has ceased to be. Now, rather than drive to a birthday party in Houston this weekend, I’ll drive to a funeral in Uvalde.

I enjoy watching the slow progression of life across my land. Yesterday I stood on the porch, leaning against a cedar pole, and looked at the flame leaf sumac with all the new sprouts popping up. I felt good.

I like it when the big news in the life of a retiree is a change in the city’s waste handling provider. It’s happening to me.

My graduation weekend continued yesterday. I went to a party for my nephew and followed that up with a party for the granddaughter of a friend. It was a busy day.

I watched my granddaughter graduate high school yesterday, along with 790 other kids. I wonder what the future holds for them.

I have always liked Slaughterhouse Five, Billy Pilgrim and the idea of being unstuck in time. Of course, I realize it’s a work of fiction, but it’s still appealing.

Today is off to a slow start. That’s good I suppose. It’s cool outside. I watched a grackle feed in the grass. The cats are fed and happy.

This feels a bit like spring. A nice cool morning over wet ground. Of course, June is right around the corner, and we’ve had plenty of hot days. So, I’m guessing this is probably a false positive.

Well. I had a wee adventure last night. As I lay in my bed listening to the storm beat against my window, I heard the rhythmic dripping of water.

Coming home. It’s a quick turn off the big highway, a short drive down the lane, and a turn into the drive with a gate that opens quietly, offering me passage.

Sometimes you go into an evening with high expectations and end up with disappointment. Sometimes you go into an evening with no expectations and end up amazingly gratified. Last night was one of the latter nights.

Went for a drive last night. Prior to my cataract surgery, a nighttime drive was an adventure in blazing lights and disappearing roads.

Took the day off yesterday. Had a follow-up visit with my eye surgeon. I now have 20/20 vision in my right eye. Feels unbalanced.

Back in the day, which is a weird way to say, when I was younger, I worked for the Houston Chronicle. I was still in high school. None of this matters.

No rain. No growing grass. No weeds. No mowing. Normally, this time of the year, I’m busy pulling stuff from gardens and mowing, but we seemed to have reached a sort of stasis.

The big day approaches. Cataract surgery. It’s coming on Thursday. My right eye. I admit I’m nervous. I mean I have two eyes. Lose one and I’m fifty percent down.

Watched the lunar eclipse last night. Shared the experience with a friend via text and my son who came out on the porch just as the eclipse hit totality. It’s nice having people in your life with whom you can share the beauty of an eclipse.

I do believe this is the first time in my long life I’ve ever driven 1,700 miles in two days with one day of rest in between. What an experience.

Spent most of the day yesterday piddling around the yard. Put up some stray yard tools, picked up miscellaneous bits of trash. Put out the re-cycling.
