A Good Reminder

As we drove out of Alamosa yesterday morning, leaving the San Luis Valley and heading toward Rotan then home, the clouds were hanging low on the mountains, snagged in passing by the tall peaks. It seemed the mountains were picking the cloud’s pockets for snow, or rain, if that’s all they had. In either case, I hope they made out and got what they needed.

I know I did. It was six days of high country living in the service of music and companionship. I brought my own guitar, but played barely a note, although the note I did play helped move along a song of mine. The real story was on the stages where no one disappointed, as poetry wrapped in music made its way into our ears and minds. In the evenings, to bring it all home, we shared food and wine to unwind and make ready for the next day.

Now. It’s back to the grind, if you want to call it that. I’m home. The cats are happy. Later this morning I’ll take a walk around to see what’s changed, if anything, and settle back into life, buoyed by the memories of a fine week in the clean mountain air of Colorado and New Mexico in the company of friends. A fine combo by any measure, and a treasure to be savored until the next time my spirit needs a cleansing with a good reminder of life’s beauty.
