Friend Tale

I’m sitting in the cool mountain air of New Mexico this morning. It’s a most pleasing thing to do. The mountains themselves rise up into that air right out our door. Later this morning we might go take a walk along the Rio Grande Gorge. There’s more music this afternoon, the final day of the three-day festival that started on Thursday.

This is my second trip to the Pueblo of Taos to attend this festival. We were scheduled to come one other time, back when the festival was young, but something came up that prevented the trip. A regretful happenstance in retrospect because my late wife would have enjoyed the scenery and music in the company of our dearest friends.

Time, however, has moved on. She’s gone, and I’m here with a new set of friends. A nice addition to the old set, and both sets know one another, so it’s not like anyone has replaced anyone. We’re simply traveling slightly different roads, still in the company of friends, and it’s nice as I’ve aged, that I’ve been able to expand my circle of friends. Because friends are one of those needs that help fulfill us, and I’m feeling pretty fulfilled right at the moment.
