A Two Plant Tale

Freed from the shadow of the Turks Caps, the Marie Pavia rose has leafed out in all it’s glory. It still gets a dab of morning sun, but now the afternoon sun streams down the drive and across the porch to touch the rose in ways it’s not been touched in a while. And to help it take advantage, I also amended the soil at its feet with a conditioner. I can’t believe I was so inattentive to its dilemma.

Meanwhile, out in the garden beneath the big oaks, what was once a little Barbados Cherry is now a family of Cherries, supporting one another and growing to what most plants would consider the towering height of five feet. As I walked around them yesterday, I saw they were covered in buds ready to bloom, and I could remember the days when I laid a single sheet over a single plant to keep off the frost. In both cases, it’s nice to have my attention so rewarded. But that’s just a bonus, because the act of giving, of loving, of caring is a reward in itself.
