The Recipe
One of my favorite recipes contains these simple words, a hearty dollop of sour cream. The word hearty carries a feeling of joy and is the epitome of the idea when you cook that you measure with your heart. The word dollop means a small, soft lump or blob, but when modified by hearty, you’re being given permission to go a little crazy, to live outside the box.
The sour cream, in its hearty dollop, ties together the rest of the recipe which is browned meat, mushroom soup and salt and pepper to taste. The title on the card says Beef Stroganoff. I’ve never had it in a restaurant, so I have no idea how the taste compares. All I know is that it’s a nice way to use a pound of ground meat and a can of mushroom soup. I get one dinner and a lunch, which is the perfect combination for an older gentleman living alone.
