Blooms

The second Turk’s Cap is well and fully dug up, and the path for sunlight for the rose is mostly open. Only one to go. In my search for new companion plants, I came upon old familiars, lavender, salvia, and catmint. Suits me. All have been in the beds before, and now it looks as though they shall return. The front porch garden will have a new look this spring.

In back porch news the Evergreen Sumac is in full bloom, and the bees are chowing down on the pollen. I’ve trimmed the little tree off the back steps and away from the porch. It finally overgrew a rosemary trying to make a go of it at its feet. I was sad to see it go, but the plant world is ruthless when it comes to the eternal quest for sunlight, water, and nutrients. I’d like another rosemary, however, and I think I have just the spot for it a little further down the bed.

I’m glad to be excited once again for the comings and going in the gardens. I thought I’d lost it, the secret pleasures of blooms and thriving plants. For a while there, it was mostly just ashes as I dealt with the grief of losing my youth and confronting eternity. But I talked to my doctor and talked to a counselor and ended up setting down some of the baggage I was carrying around. Too heavy and not really required for the simple task of living in the now.
