The Machine
I bought a new vacuum cleaner yesterday. I splurged and bought a battery operated, handheld model from a maker of some repute. It cost a pretty penny, but if it lasts ten years then the cost per year will be small. From one day’s experience, I think it’s safe to say my frequency of pulling out the vacuum will increase. The new machine is easy to use. No more bulk. No more cords.
It’s something I’ve wanted to do for some time, particularly those times when I had to pull out the old vacuum, wrestle with the cord, dump the waste, and never really get close to any baseboard or under anything. It was a machine that might have been a wonder in its time, but its time had long since passed and I was no longer a fan. I am now firmly in the 21st century cleaning camp when it comes to equipment.
Of course, dirt is still dirt, and dust is still dust and it will gather when and where it wants. It doesn’t help that I live next to a pasture and that the prevailing wind comes from that direction. But in the fight to keep both at bay, dirt and dust, at least in the house, I am now armed with better technology. So, while they might still come, I stand ready to help them leave and find a new home.
