Finding Food

I’ve started making my own coffee creamer. Half and Half blended with sweetened condensed milk. My bullet does the job. It lasts a good while. There’s probably a small cost savings, but the big saving is no chemical additives. Although, I’m fairly certain at this stage of my life there’s not much left to reduce when it comes to loss of longevity through use of chemical additives. I think it’s just fun.

I’m getting better at cooking for one, and I have found my tastes tend to run in cycles. I was big on salmon for a while. Now it’s catfish, baked mostly, but fried occasionally. My go to veggies are broccoli (steamed) and avocados. The latter is technically fruit, but it has so many bennies that my doctors consider it a good side dish. And I’m more than okay with that.

Overall, I tend to shop in three- or four-day cycles. It cuts down on waste particularly when it comes to meat. Sometimes I freeze stuff for later use, but I tend to like fresh. Frozen is okay as long as I remember it’s there, because it always needs thawing. I’m lucky, too, that I have a grocery store close at hand, about a mile away. In a pinch I can find good eats, quick. I’m also lucky that I eat to survive rather than eat for pleasure. All I need to eat is something that fills me up. And palatable is a different measure than delicious.
