Home Work

Fulfillment. My mower is back up and running. I replaced the flat idler pulley and installed a new belt. We’re not done yet. I still need to replace the bearings in one of the spindle assemblies. There’s a wobble and the blade cuts unevenly. I needed professional advice, however, before undertaking the task. I got it. And I think I can do it. I just need to take my time and use the air driven impact wrench.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I like the satisfied feeling I get at the end of a job like that. There’s just something about doing work with your two hands that brings peace to the soul. It’s tempting to say it makes me feel like a man, but I know lots of women who do the same sort of work and know how to keep things running. So, I imagine that sense of accomplishment is a universal feeling, and I felt it yesterday.

I also did a little woodwork to reset the deadbolt on my workroom. Not my most inspiring performance, but it did the job. I also finished the key sort, and once again know which key goes to what door. Talk about institutional memory. It is restored. Although at least four keys, however, are still lockless. Some work is never done. And I miss the keeper of the keys who passed away in 2020.
