Making Music

Tina and Ron from another show at the same venue as yesterday.

And today we’re off in search of words, because yesterday was a day of rest. Although, I did go hear two friends play and sing in the company of many other friends. Wine and chocolate were involved as well, which combined with the cool weather made for a lovely day. The singing friends were Tina Mitchell Wilkins and Ron Flynt.

During the course of the singing, Chad Richard was invited to the stage, and later in the show, I got to come up to do a tune, the Sea and the Shore written by Amy Speace. I really suggest taking a minute to watch the linked video of the original. It’s a duet with Amy and John Fullbright. Mine was a duet with Tina. I was honored. And I had fun. It’s always nice singing for and with your friends, because they’re almost always complementary when you’re done and they’re understanding if you botch something.

In the end, I went home feeling good, which is a nice thing about making music. You almost always feel good when you’re done. Even when I’m alone, I can make myself feel good by picking up my guitar and belting out a tune or two. It’s one of the reasons I encourage youngsters who play music because it’s something you can do well into your old age. They don’t often listen but those that do will reap the rewards. And when they do maybe they’ll look back and think kindly of the old man who encouraged them to play on.
