New Direction

These walls are blue, at least in real life.

It’s interesting to note how the life of a house changes as the life of the owners change. Sixteen years ago, our guest rooms were bustling with family and friends, and I actually worked in my upstairs office/library. Then grand-kids grew up, friends moved, family moved in, family moved off, illness came, and death came knocking. My living area shrank and I was good with it, because it was manageable.

Now, change has come once again. I have back part of my space, and it is oddly refreshing. Several years ago, I decided I was moving into a new psychological era following the death of my wife. Now, it appears, has come the physical part of the journey. I’ve reclaimed one guest room, and the second guest room will be dedicated to music. My library will be a reading room. The house will reflect the changes in my life, and become a new source of life for me, and my family, and friends.

I like these circumstances in which I now find myself. Life feels purposeful. I’ve moved with the changes, adapting and adopting new methods. I hope I can maintain the momentum. I am no longer as young as I once was, and my physical skills are diminished. So, time management is important. But my drive is intact and I’m cautiously optimistic. I think I know where I’m going and how to get there, although on this trip I think the going is more important than the destination.
