Raise a Glass

Well, well. I made it into the new year. I even ventured out to attend a party. There was food, drink, and good company. I was home by eleven. I saw fireworks as I drove, and they popped and boomed as I lay in bed. Others now have the official job of welcoming the new year in person. Personally, I know it’s coming no matter what I do, and sure enough here we are.

My plans for the new year are relatively simply. I want to publish my new book. Long pause. That’s it for things I want to do; things I’m working on. The rest of the year will take shape, as the year takes shape, as events drive events. It feels nice to have a semi-clean slate staring at me, knowing I can dip in and out of the action as I see fit. Come or go. Pick and choose. With no burden of being vital to the action, as if I ever were.

As for the long term, all I know is this. There’s a good chance, at some point during the second quarter of the 21st century between now and 2050, I will cease to be. I will, however, do everything I can to stay in the game as long as I can, because I really enjoy being alive, walking in nature, raising my plants, seeing my children, visiting with friends, having a laugh, playing music, writing, eating a good meal. So, let’s pause for a moment, raise a glass to the new year, and hope all goes well.
