Systemic Work

We had a taste of rain last night. I could hear it fall. I even went outside to listen. That’s a nice thing about porches. You can stand outside in the rain. It’s especially nice when the rain is gentle, tapping on the tin roof, bringing up all the earthy smells, and washing dust off the leaves. More rain is promised today. Of course, there’s no one to hold to the promise. It’s more like a systemic probability.

But that’s literally life. Probabilities. I wish I’d paid more attention in math or been more predisposed. But it was always words that I liked. Luckily, the words led me to math in the long run. And now the probabilities run for free in my head, ideas mostly, not numbers. It’s life as boolean statements, if this then that unless this. On and on it goes clicking relentlessly until the day the entire system shuts down, because there was no more this to give.

I did my physical therapy yesterday to give this little system a chance to keep on ticking. It feels like energy in will be a good thing, a reminder to the parts left behind that there’s still work to do. I even have an app that is now reminding me its time to do my stretches. So, I guess I should wrap this up and get on with it. Too much sitting is a bad thing the older you get. Things seize up, freeze up, give up. Can’t have that if I want to make it through my eighties unscathed, and I do.
