Seeking Help
The second part of my two part effort at self-healing takes place today. I started with the mind. Now, it’s the body’s turn. I’m seeing a physical therapist to if I can get what’s left of my body back into some sort of working shape. This comes to me courtesy of a friend who read my recent post about balance issues. He put me in touch with his daughter (a physical therapist), who gave me local references.
This is the second case of a friend who reads my posts giving me a medical reference. The first case saved me from having an unneeded surgery. It was a third opinion about my abdominal aortic aneurysm (since repaired). My hope for this referral is that I’ll get a plan I can execute to reinforce my aging physical structure. At the moment, I hurt in too many places for it to be good for me, and I think a therapist can help turn that around.
Overall, this is another example of why it might be a good thing to talk about what ails you. Generally, I’ve found that people tend to keep a lot of things to themselves, when a little sharing might turn up a resource that could be good for them. Of course, a person has to be willing to accept help, and that’s another matter entirely, as I pointed out yesterday. In my experience, most people just nod and go right on being miserable because they think seeking help is a sign of weakness.
