A Journey

Started on a journey yesterday. Personal. Met with a counselor. Every once in a while, I just need someone to talk to. A way to hand off the baggage or maybe get some help. Friends are good, but friends usually have their own problems and shuffling mine onto their shoulders is sometimes an ask too far. So, I opted for professional help after finding myself mired in a miasma of inaction.

It was a good move. Simply starting the process got things turning and chased away some of the blues. The counselor seems nice and I’m hopeful. He even knew something about quantum mechanics which is not really an issue I have but it sounds like we might be sharing some wavelengths. In the end, of course, what I need is help shifting whatever paradigm is locking me up, and that’s where the experienced outsider comes in.

I’ve had good luck over the years with counselors helping me untangle various knots in my life. Marriage, illness, and grief. It’s the same pattern I follow with anything where I’m stuck. Cars, carpentry, and electronics. There’s almost always someone who knows more than I do. Learning by doing is okay, but learning by asking is usually simpler and often yields quicker results. The key is a willingness to admit ignorance.
