Weekend Update
We had another good rain yesterday. My gauge clocked in at 2.5 inches, and a lot of that fell in a very short time. I suppose that’s why my phone started blowing up with flash flood warnings. More is promised today once the day warms and the air gets stirred up. We’ve had a nice wet month of May, and some of the local lakes are benefiting. So, it was a nice Memorial Day.
There was a time when I would have been camping with the family on this weekend, but the family is spread about, and key members are missing. Plus, it was decided a few years ago to move the annual trip to October just because of what happened yesterday, rain. Watching a thunderstorm in a stone house is a pleasure. Watching it from a tent is something else altogether, especially when the air is electrically charged. And the god of thunder was on his game yesterday.
Also, I believe I have put away that thing and gone on to building new memories with new people doing new things. I think I might call it a form of crop rotation for the brain. New experiences with new people pile in. The brain remembers its youth, processes, plans, stores things, and gets excited for tomorrow. And it’s doing it with the benefit of hindsight. It has seen things. It’s aging, sure, but maybe it’s now smart enough to know how to make do with less, and it’s having fun once again.
