Working
The Two Day Two City Tour 2026 is in the books. Life on the road is a grind, and I’m glad to be home, he said with tongue firmly in cheek. Yesterday’s event was held inside because of rain with no amplification, which meant I didn’t get to use my new tremolo pedal, but it felt just like home because mostly I play in picker’s circles in people’s front rooms.
I did three songs, told a few stories, got folks to laugh and even made a few folks happy, or at least that’s what they said to me afterwards. I confess that it’s enjoyable connecting with strangers through music. It’s like the best way to meet people, although I’ve yet fully to master the art of asking people for their names, and that’s an oversight. I’m still working on how to be gracious in the face of praise, plus the excitement and adrenaline of a performance plays hell with my limited social skills.
But I’m a fan of continuous improvement and adult learning so I’ll keep trying. Eventually, as happens with my songs, I’ll internalize the required responses and be better for it. I’ve read that friendships are the key to good mental health. So, making new acquaintances seems like a really good idea. And it’s also nice to have goals, something to keep me moving forward. And that, I believe, is equally important for good mental and physical health.
